Gabor Mihaly Toth obtained a PhD in medieval history from the University of Oxford, Balliol College. In his thesis he investigated knowledge and thinking in late medieval Florentine diaries and notebooks. Following his PhD he was assistant professor of digital humanities at the University of Passau. In 2016 he moved to the United States where he worked as research fellow in digital humanities at GMU, Yale, and USC. Specifically, he worked in digital archives of Holocaust testimonies (Yale Fortunoff Archive, USC Shoah Foundation Visual History Archive). His research focuses on the application of data science for historical research. He is the author of two monographs. With Barbara Mcgillivray he wrote Applying Language Technology in Humanities Research (Palgrave Macmillan : 2020). He is the author of the digital monograph, In Search of the Drowned (Yale Fortunoff Archive: 2021). He also has a background in information culture; he researched and published about Venetian ambassadorial reports. He also enjoys teaching digital humanities. For instance, he taught computational text analysis at the Oxford DH Summer School.
